Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully this will work to answer some basic questions.

Can you build me a custom amplifier?

Indeed I can.

Can you make me an amplifier exactly like the one Johnny Rockstar used on stage in 1973 at the Boston Garden?

No.. it's not likely, since I don't have his amp to tear apart and reference.

Can you build me a precise reproduction of a famous amp from the 60's.

Well, It depends what you mean by precise reproduction. I can build an amp using that circuit (if the information is available) but to have the exact same tubes, transformers, and components, it's unlikely it will be exact. It will be a nice "Tribute" to the original.

Can I try out one of your amps?

Sure, you can contact me, and visit our shop. I can arrange to have the prototypes here to you to try out. Although I'm NOT selling my prototypes.. I'll build you a fresh one just like it.

Can I purchase your stuff from outside the USA?

I suppose so... although I'll have to familiarize myself with your country's electrical power. I'm used to 115V 3 Prong that we use here.

How long does it take to make my order?

It depends on what you need, and how quickly the parts are available. Amps will usually take about 8 weeks to be ready, pedals and power supplies about 1-2 weeks.

I have a favorite speaker that I want used in every amp I own... can you put it in one of yours?

Sure, if it fits, and I can buy it from current production, then YES.

What tubes do you use in your amps? What tubes are best?

Oh brother... I use lots of different tubes depending on what the amp wants. I use some NOS tubes, some JJ, some TungSol, and for "function tubes" like oscillators, I'll use whatever works. I'll usually try a few different ones and see what the amp likes best. Although Sovtek tubes have a blah sonic reputation, they make a darn reliable rectifier or oscillator.

Can you fix my "insert product name here"???

More than likely. I've done lots of oddball stuff lately, Hi-Fi equipment, Mixers, Amps, even computer monitors. If I can't fix it, I'll help you find someone who can.

What kind of stuff do you normally fix?

Tube Amps, and Tube related stuff. I've been known to work on Echoplex, Tel-Ray Oil Can Delays, Amps from many makers... stuff like that.

My broken amp is a Solid State one... Can you fix that?

More than likely. I'm glad to at least take a look. Most repairs are pretty straightforward.
